MCCLA
The Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy (MCCLA) was introduced by the Mississippi Community College Foundation (MCCF) in the spring of 2009 to address the projected need for upper-level leaders in the Mississippi community college system. MCCLA provides an opportunity for selected administrative employees to sharpen their supervisory, management, and leadership skills and help prepare participants for future leadership roles.
MCCLA Goal
The MCCLA is organized around the practical needs for future community college leaders, specific to the Mississippi community college system. Consequently, much of the material presented and discussed in the Leadership Academy is relative to the operation of Mississippi’s community colleges.
Program Details
This year-long program consists of workshops designed to strengthen supervisory and management skills, using participants’ current work situations to apply new skills and tools. It is also an opportunity to network and strengthen system-wide collaborative efforts.
Nomination Criteria
MCCB nominees must have one year of service as a Mississippi Community College Board employee and have received a satisfactory personnel review for the current review period. The nominee must also be on target to accomplish established goals as agreed upon, in the review, with their supervisor. Potential participants from the community colleges should contact their respective human resource office to determine the nomination criteria and process.
Nomination Process
Nominees are provided through a transparent nomination process. Each nominator must submit an MCCLA selection form*, answer the requested information about the nominee, and include information explaining how the individual meets the nomination criteria. Nominations will be submitted to the Assistant Executive Director of Human Resources, who will assemble the information, review all nominations, and select the participants. The goal is to select two participants that reflect the diversity of roles and functions at the board. Those who are selected will be notified by email.
*MCCLA nomination forms will be provided by the Assistant Executive Director of Human Resources.
MCCLA classes are held from June until May of the following year.
