The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB) was recently awarded a silver certificate in recognition of supporting workplace wellness among its employees in the fourth quarter of 2020. The Workplace Wellness Warrior distinction was provided by Motivating Mississippi – Keys to Living Healthy and Active Health Management, the Mississippi State and School Employees’ Health Insurance Plan’s wellness vendor. The Workplace Wellness Warrior recognition program successfully launched in 2018 as an effort to recognize site contacts and wellness champions that perform an exemplary job supporting wellness in the workplace.
“I place great value on providing growth opportunities to agency employees to help them reach their personal best for peak performance,” said Dr. Andrea Mayfield, Executive Director of the Mississippi Community College Board. “When members of the team achieve peak performance and contribute to the team at the highest level, the agency accomplishes the mission and embodies the vision to be successful.”
Upon learning of this recognition, Cynthia Jiles, Assistant Executive Director of Human Resources, shared, “We are deeply honored for this recognition. MCCB is committed to providing a workplace culture that is focused on professional growth and development and supporting the health and wellbeing of our employees. Wellness and staff engagement is strongly linked.”
In 2020, MCCB has hosted 21 wellness related webinars. COVID-19 protocols prompted the agency to deliver content in a virtual format in order to keep our staff safe, healthy, and happy. In addition to the regular webinars, MCCB installed a Bike Share System on campus. The bikes are available for use by all employees of the R&D campus. The Bike Share System was funded entirely through a grant awarded to MCCB by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. Helmets were donated by the Department of Rehabilitation.
