Position Vacancy: Data Analyst for Accountability

Characteristics of Work

The Data Analyst is a full-time position within the Office of Accountability and reports to the Assistant Executive Director for Institutional Research and Effectiveness. The employee collaborates across the agency, with community colleges, and with external partners to provide data management, analytics, and technical support for quality institutional research functions and enrollment monitoring.

The employee will work collaboratively with all constituents and MCCB staff to collect, research, analyze, interpret, and present data related to postsecondary academic, workforce, career and technical education, and national credentials. The position requires a high degree of teamwork, organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy.

Core Duties

  • Collect, validate, and organize data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability for analysis.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights using statistical and analytical techniques, including sampling methods.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and software for data processing, analysis, and automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data insights to stakeholders in an understandable and actionable format.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including IT, finance, and operations, to understand data needs and provide analytical support for decision-making.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations and best practices in data management.

Examples of Work

  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Executive Director for Institutional Research in the collection, management, and reporting of college enrollment credit and noncredit data.
  • Assist the Research and Effectiveness Division with service support, troubleshooting, and error resolution of college data uploads to the Electronic Audit Reporting System (eARS).
  • Assist in the production of data analysis and reports for all stakeholders, internal and external.
  • Contribute to the division’s federal and state reporting requirements and annual reports.
  • Assist in the maintenance of public dashboards and the Research and Effectiveness Division website.
  • Work with the Monitoring Unit to ensure enrollment data transfer is accurate and valid, and assist with monitoring functions as needed.
  • Work closely with IT staff in the retrieval and management of data exchanged in the eARS database.
  • Maintain knowledge of current issues in higher education relative to areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare and deliver clear and effective oral and written communications with all constituents.
  • Work collaboratively and analytically for continuous improvement of data management and reporting processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Executive Director for Research and Effectiveness to understand MCCB data processes, enrollment guidelines, monitoring, and software.
  • Represent MCCB in professional attire, demeanor, and the daily discharge of duties.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Experience

Three years of related work experience in research, analysis, and database management. Previous higher education experience is a plus.

Skills

  • Proficiency in data and statistical analysis, interpretation, research methods, and survey methodology.
  • Ability to use a variety of software, including data analysis, database management, and customized report programming.
  • Knowledge of SAS, Python, SPSS, or other statistical software.
  • Knowledge of creating and maintaining data reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Tableau.
  • Advanced computer skills, including SQL programming for data retrieval, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent multitasking skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams of various college personnel or other constituencies.

Graduation from an accredited bachelor’s degree program of directly related education and ten years of directly related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
