Preparing Mississippi's Workforce for Tomorrow
The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB) serves as a coordinating agency supporting Mississippi’s 15 community colleges in delivering high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. In partnership with college CTE leaders, the MCCB develops and maintains curriculum frameworks that ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with industry and workforce needs. The CTE office also helps plan the Workforce, Career, and Technical Summer Conference, the state’s only annual gathering of workforce, career, and technical education professionals, offering engaging sessions and valuable networking opportunities.
What is Career & Technical Education?
Career and Technical Education equips students with the academic knowledge, technical skills, and hands-on training needed to prepare for high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers. CTE connects classroom learning to real-world applications, helping learners develop both career-specific competencies and essential employability skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.
Through partnerships with business, industry, and postsecondary institutions, CTE programs ensure that instruction aligns with workforce needs and emerging technologies. Funded through both federal and state sources—including the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act—CTE supports equitable access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all students.
Mississippi’s 15 community colleges offer hundreds of CTE programs that lead to industry-recognized credentials, certificates, and degrees across fields such as health sciences, information technology, manufacturing, transportation, and business.
By aligning education with employer demand, CTE opens doors for students and strengthens Mississippi’s economy.
