Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment

Developing Industry-Aligned Curriculum

Our mission is to develop innovative curricula that align with industry certifications/national standards, and professional training that facilitate seamless educational delivery by well-trained professionals focused on preparing skilled workers for the 21st-century economy.

The Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment coordinates with all 15 community colleges and works with businesses and industries to ensure the development of current, research-based, high-quality curriculum frameworks that align with national certifications. Providing industry-driven curricula that are aligned with national certifications offers students the opportunity to compete statewide and nationally.

The Importance of Curriculum

A high-quality curriculum is at the core of every great program. The driving force behind career and technical education is to provide students with the skills to obtain high-wage, high-demand, and high-skill careers. It is important to empower all students to be successful citizens, workers, and leaders in a global economy. Here at the MCCB, we strive to create course content that prepares students for Mississippi’s growing and expanding economy. Our nationally recognized, experienced, and highly qualified team of experts author the CTE curricula utilized by community college programs throughout the state.

Strengthening Instruction

High-quality curriculum is strengthened by high-quality instruction. CTE instructors across Mississippi’s 15 community colleges are supported through coordinated, statewide professional development and leadership initiatives provided by the Mississippi Community College Board.

  • Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL): Provides hands-on training focused on effective instructional strategies, classroom management, student engagement, and reflective teaching practices to enhance both classroom and online instruction.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) Leadership Academy: Develops leadership, communication, and organizational skills to prepare instructors for expanded responsibilities and leadership roles within CTE programs.
  • Annual Summer Conference: Brings faculty and administrators from all 15 community colleges together for a statewide professional development experience featuring curriculum updates, emerging industry trends, compliance guidance, breakout sessions, and collaborative networking opportunities.
