State Licensing and Registration for Proprietary Schools

The Commission on Proprietary Schools and College Registration (CPSCR) is responsible for administering the Mississippi Proprietary School and College Registration LawTitle 75, Chapter 60, Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, and serves as the approval and state licensing authority for proprietary schools offering vocational, occupational, and technical postsecondary education in Mississippi. 

The Commission’s primary purpose is to establish and implement the process for obtaining and maintaining Certificates of Registration and Agent Permits for eligible institutions. 

Commission Structure

The Commission is composed of five (5) members appointed by the Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB): 

  • One member is appointed from each of the five congressional districts as they existed when the Commission was established.
  • All Commission members must have held teaching, managerial, or similar positions within public, private, trade, technical, or other educational institutions.
  • At least one member must be actively engaged in, or retired from, a privately owned trade, technical, or other institution. 

Initial terms of service are three (3) to five (5) years; subsequent terms are five (5) years.

Meetings and Deadlines

The Commission meets regularly to review applications, exemptions, renewals, and compliance actions. Items must be received by the posted deadlines to be included on the agenda.
