Statewide Services
The Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) strengthens online learning across the state by coordinating shared technology and statewide contracts on behalf of Mississippi’s 15 community colleges. By pooling resources, the colleges reduce costs, expand access, and ensure that every student and faculty member has access to the same high-quality tools for teaching and learning. Shared services also promote statewide consistency, allowing colleges to focus more on instruction, innovation, and student success.
Core Shared Services
MSVCC supports teaching and learning through a set of statewide tools and services used by all 15 community colleges:
- Learning Management System: Provides a single statewide platform where students access courses, assignments, grades, and communication tools.
- Online Tutoring: Offers virtual academic support to help students succeed in key subjects.
- Proctoring Systems: Supports secure online testing and academic integrity in remote and hybrid courses.
- Digital Library System (MELO): Expands access to eBooks, journals, multimedia, and research databases.
- Instructional Media Tools: Enables instructors to record video, create interactive content, and enhance online course delivery.
- Instructional Design & Accessibility Tools: Supports course layout, accessibility compliance, and quality standards for online instruction.
- Student Success Analytics: Helps colleges identify and support students who may be at risk of dropping or failing a course.
How Shared Services Benefit the State
By negotiating and managing statewide contracts, the MSVCC helps colleges reduce costs and avoid duplicating purchases, saving millions in annual technology expenses. Shared services also create consistency across all 15 community colleges, allowing students to experience the same core tools and learning standards no matter where they enroll. Because vendor management happens at the system level, colleges gain greater efficiency and are free to focus on instruction and student support. These shared investments also promote equity, ensuring that smaller colleges have access to the same high-quality tools as larger institutions.
