Mississippi Virtual Community College

A Digital Learning Cooperative

The Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) is a statewide consortium of all 15 Mississippi community colleges. Coordinated by the Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB), the MSVCC expands access to high-quality online learning through collaboration, shared resources, and a commitment to student success. Together, colleges share courses, technology, faculty expertise, and student services to expand opportunities statewide.

25+ Years of Collaboration

Established in 1999, the MSVCC was one of the nation’s first statewide virtual college systems and has grown into a trusted partnership advancing quality, efficiency, and innovation in online learning across Mississippi.

  • 1999: The MSVCC was founded.
  • 2000s: Rapid expansion of online courses and faculty training.
  • 2010s: Launch of statewide virtual library access (MELO) and Canvas adoption.
  • 2020s: Professional development networks, advanced technology contracts, and national recognition with the 2024 WCET Outstanding Work (WOW) Award

A Collaborative Model

The MSVCC’s success is built on shared leadership. The consortium combines state-level coordination with input from college leaders and professional networks to ensure strategies, policies, and services meet the needs of all 15 colleges.

  • Mississippi Association of Community Colleges (MACC): represents the state’s fifteen public community colleges and provides a shared framework for student activity policies. The Association promotes well-rounded student development through athletics and other activities, emphasizing discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and ethical competition.
  • Mississippi eLearning Association (MeLA): supports the continued quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC). Membership includes each college’s Chief eLearning Officer and other eLearning professionals across the consortium.
  • MCCB Division of eLearning & Instructional Technology: provides centralized leadership, statewide contract management, policy coordination, and comprehensive support for all 15 community colleges. Division members serve as a technical resource team for the MELA, ensuring that colleges, educators, and administrators receive the services and guidance needed to advance the mission of the MSVCC.
